Location, Location

Posted by:

Oh, the Possibilities!

With this *beautiful* weather we’ve been having this week (note the tongue tightly held in cheek), a great question came across my mind.

Does location really matter to your workout?

In a sense, yes.  It does.

It should be a place where you’re comfortable, shouldn’t have to pick up a bunch of things before starting the workout, and shouldn’t “turn you off” visually.  It also helps if there’s a great support system built into it.

I’ve been ...

The Secret of Individual Packaging

Posted by:

I’m not a person who likes to advocate waste. In fact, the less I can impact the environment, the better.

However, there is a weight-reduction secret out there that is often overlooked by everyone except the food companies, and it’s this:

Individual packaging gets people to eat less.

Ever wonder why the 100 Calorie Snack Packs are popular?  Of course not, because you know that one of the “packages” has 100 calories, which keeps you from diving into an entire bag and eating ...

Eating Healthy Does Not Equal Eating Bland

Posted by:

When most people think of “going on a diet,” they usually think 1) Bland foods that don’t have any of their favorites included, 2) lots of rules and restrictions that don’t let you relax at any moment, 3) Something that cannot be maintained over the long term and ultimate failure.

Now, seriously, just stop right there.

It doesn’t have to be that way!

Wouldn’t you rather lose weight AND be happy?

Enjoy the foods you’re eating?

Have a treat now and then?

It’s certainly possible, and ...

Action and Consequences

First of all, watch this video.

I’ll give you a moment to re-compose yourself.

Now, are you allowing yourself to act, or are you holding yourself back?

If you’ve been holding yourself back, just get out there. Go do it.

*Video: Katy Perry, “Firework.”* Pretty amazing stuff!

How to Survive a Weekend and Still Lose Weight

Posted by:

It’s tough to keep going on your healthy eating plan on the weekend: your schedule is thrown off, everyone’s home OR you’re running all over the place, the idea of weekend is relaxation.  Put all this together, and all the wonderful work you feel you’ve done all week can pretty much get obliterated in 6 meals & 2 days (and one more night, if you start on Friday).

So, if you’re trying to attain your goal, what are you to do?  ...

Nutrition: Why Protein Matters, by Dr. John Berardi

Posted by:

I highly suggest reading the full article, found here:

http://www.precisionnutrition.com/protein-limit

If you don’t have time (or want to get your interest peaked), here’s a great synopsis:

Why Protein Matters, by Dr. John Berardi

Muscle protein synthesis isn’t the only reason to eat more protein.  There’s satiety, the thermogenic effects, the impact on the immune system, and more (see below).

Plus, there are probably a few benefits science can’t measure yet.  I say the last part because there’s so much experiential evidence ...

Sleep=Fat Loss?

Posted by:

Sleep impacts fat loss efforts quite substantially. The average American only receives about 6-7 hours of sleep per night, with many of us getting much less than that.

If you don’t have enough sleep for your body, you are more likely to not only be low on energy (which means fewer workouts or less intense workouts= less calories burned), but you are also likely to eat more (especially simple/sugary carbohydrates, which end up creating a rollercoaster of short bursts of energy ...

How to Beat the Mind Game

Posted by:

I received an email from a client recently that pretty much summed up the “I surrender” attitude.  In a nutshell, she had allowed the mind game to get the better of her when it came to her goals, and no longer wanted to try and attain them.

If we did this in other areas of our lives, the results would be pretty immediate.  Surrender to working on your marriage? Your kids? Your job? And what happens?  Life gets pretty devastating pretty ...

12 Days of Christmas Workout

Posted by:

Holidays can provide fun themes for workout styles, and we took full advantage of the holiday season at bootcamp last week!

The inspiration for last week’s bootcamp workout came from the song “12 Days of Christmas.” A special thanks to my friend Scott Colby, The Abs Expert, for posting his own great “12 Days” workout here and giving me the idea for the format!

When you do the workout, it ...
